Chimney Rock National Monument is an off-the-beaten-path archaeological site located at the southern edge of the San Juan Mountains. While we didn’t get to explore the park inside, we did get to take some pictures of the larger rock formations.
A continental divide is the boundary separating precipitation that flows into two oceans. The Lobo Overlook is on the Divide and at almost 11,000 feet in elevation, still has snow.
Elevation sickness is no joke, I really began to feel the lower oxygen levels as we climbed.
Treasure Falls is a highway pull out and a steep .8 mile hike to the top.
After all this activity we stopped in Pagosa Springs, home of the world’s deepest geothermal hot spring, for a long soak.
(We didn’t take any pictures while there…use your imagination if you must)

Oh great…it was nice that you took the time to enjoy the hot springs in Pagosa Springs. My granddaughter was the STAR (the only person)in a CD made about Chimney Rock. The CD is shown in schools to educate the kids on the area. Many of the schools
take the students there and in this CD Nora tells them how to be prepared for their visit…shoes to wear, sun screen etc. I think
it is on U tube…I will find out form my son. She did a great job on it. She was 9 years old when it was filmed. I continue to enjoy
your posts. How long will you be on the road before you return to Texas? Be safe and be well. Sue
That is so great about your granddaughter. She was 9 when it was made, how old is she now? There was a field trip(s) of kids when we were at Pagosa Springs so we opted to go to the Overlook instead of the resort. Th kids looked like they were having a great time, but after a day of hiking we wanted a little but more quiet than what we have had a the resort. But all those kids probably saw your granddaughter – so neat!
We are not sure exactly when we are returning to Texas but I know that we will return before mid-year next year. We return for doctors visits, registration of vehicles, and to visit friends. I hope you’ll be around when we are there so we can meet up. Take care, Catharine
