When I started planning this trip, I knew I wanted to see bison and Old Faithful. I had no idea that there was a Grand Canyon within Yellowstone’s borders. The park was actually named after the yellow stones that are within the canyon walls.
The canyon length is 20 miles and more than 1,000 feet deep with a width of 1,500 – 4,000 feet. The Grand Canyon is made more impressive by the Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River.
View from Artist Point. This is one the most photographed views in Yellowstone. Framed by the canyon walls with forests for a backdrop, the Yellowstone River thunders more than 308 feet over Lower Falls. We saw several artists painting and drawing the views.

There were several trails along the South Rim that we would’ve liked to hike, but were closed due to construction. Next time.
